In 1939, there were 1.5 million Jewish
children alive in Europe.
Only about 10 percent survived the Holocaust.
Some escaped to safe shores, some survived the camps, some the forests, some
at the hands of abusive protectors.
Only a handful were saved by non-Jewish rescuers, who, at great risk to
their own lives, took them in as an extraordinary act of kindness.
THIS IS THE STORY OF THOSE CHILDREN AND THEIR RESCUERS. |

Secret Lives: Hidden Children and Their
Rescuers During WWII (2002)

pdf format |
Genre:
Documentary
Plot Summary:
During the Second
World War, some tens of thousands of Jewish children were saved
from almost certain death by an equally small number of
non-Jewish neighbors, friends, or even - in many cases - total
strangers. These rescuers, men and women of uncommon decency,
did everything from bringing Jewish children into their families
under false identities to securing hiding places in closets,
attics, or hastily-dug bunkers.
What happened
between these children, their parents, and rescuers is the focus
of SECRET LIVES. |
